If you want to register as a soccer referee for the 2018 season, here's a little information:
You must complete an entry level certification course. This is a 16 hour course, generally held on two days.
Candidates must be at least 12 years old as of January 1 of the year of registration.
Cost for the course is $75 which includes: $35 course fee (instructors, materials, facilities); $40 registration fee for US Soccer. There may also be additional fees for local unit dues and facility use. Those vary from class to class. For additional information, contact persons are listed for each course.
For additional information on requirements, contact William Campbell at email@example.com.
Registration for a clinic:
The first thing that you should do is check list of courses to find one that is convenient. Click here to download a copy of the courses. The list is separated by district. You may attend any class - it doesn't have to be in the same area that you live in. Additional classes may be scheduled at any time, though the schedule is generally finalized by January. If the list says TBA next to the district name, that district hasn't scheduled classes yet. Check back.
Classes may fill up. If that happens, you may not be able to register for the class you selected. We try to keep the listing here up-to-date, but that's done manually, while the registration process operates in real time.
Students CANNOT attend Day 1 of one class and Day 2 of a different class.
When you are registering online, always use the name of the student - not the name of a parent. The registration information must be for the person being registered.
New York West Youth Soccer requires that referees have a Risk Management pass. This is done through New York West - not through the referee unit. Additional information will be provided on this process. There is an additional charge for that - currently $15. If you already have a pass as a coach or other team representative, you won't need to get another pass.
Our registration and assigning systems rely heavily on email notifications. We have a problem with Roadrunner addresses (roadrunner.com or XXXX.rr.com). It's a long story, but the bottom line is there's a high likelihood that informational and/or assigning emails sent through our system will be blocked by Roadrunner. If you have a different email address that you can use, it's recommended that you do so. You also have the option of entering up to 3 addresses. There is a check box next to each address field - notifications will be sent to any and all emails if that box is checked. In any case, please make sure that the address you use is checked regularly.
Referees need to purchase uniforms and equipment. There is a "starter kit" available that costs around $50.
The good news is, game fees range from about $20 to $70 for youth games. Realistically, you will start out with games in the $20-$30 range, but the opportunity exists to recoup your costs quickly.
